This was the third of 4 additions in the same neighborhood. While the goal was the same as the other two, to enlarge the kitchen and family areas on the lower level with a Master suite on the upper level. The challenge was on to make this space fit the needs and character of this family, while solving the same problems. While they like to entertain family and friends they were not as extravagant as the first home nor as low key as the second. They wanted a casual blend of sophistication and comfort in their home. The kitchen is luxurious with granite counters, custom tile backsplash, wine bar area, and the eating area is integrated into the island for casual dining in the morning. In the existing house the old kitchen area was turned into a powder room and a new hallway to access the side door to improve access. Upstairs with the addition of a new Master suite one of the smaller old bedrooms could now be turned into a second floor laundry room bringing that chore up out of the basement. As a bonus the homeowner had the basement in the new addition fitted up to use as a workshop.
